Posted news/blog so far are events which particularly related to the club and the Faculty. There are still many other happenings which the students of the Faculty have been heavily involved with. Such activities like the 'Seekers' group activity, the Chinese group gathering, etc. are very well to be shared here. And for the alumni, we are eager to know what you have been up to lately.

Happenings (4): December 2009

The Faculty of Religious Studies had its Christmas party on December 3. The Dean (acting) of the Faculty, Dr. Fanwar, had generously given gifts to everyone who came that evening. Renie decorated the dining hall of the church where the party was held. Most of the students (theology & non-theology) who took classes with the Faculty this semester came. During the second and the third week of December, Dr & Mrs Fanwar went to Sabah to teach in the extension school for pastors. Two courses were taught--Urban Ministry and Evangelism, and Personal and Congregational Spirituality. The week also coincided with Sabah Centennial celebration. They went to Kuching for Randy's wedding after the class finished. The picture above (courtesy of Malvin Gakim) shows a group of pastors who took the classes with them.

Happenings (3): 1st Semester 2009-10

As usual for the class of Christian Music and Worship, a field trip to Christ Church in Bangkok is part of the learning process. The field trip was in November 1. The picture above is the main entrance into the Church. Besides Christ Church, the group also went to Calvary Baptist Church.

As part of the worship projects of the class of Christian Music and Worship, this mock wedding ceremony was almost for real. This 'ceremony' was executed on November 17. Please visit http://www.apiu.edu/publications/newsbyte/2009-2/issue12.pdf (page 3) for more coverage on the event.

The Theology Club had its outdoor worship at Lopburi Botanical Garden on November 20. This outing was a yearly activity for the club. The top picture shows the seniors (graduating) being surrounded by their friends and teachers in a special prayer.

November 25 featured Theology Art and Culture Centre open house. This centre was officially opened on April 7, 2009. The main centre was in the theology library, but for this occassion, all cultural and art items were displayed around church foyer. This centre places students' projects on display throughout the week besides various Bible versions (English) and translations (languages). THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL COVERAGE FOR THIS CENTRE IN THE FUTURE.

On November 28 the class of Christian Music and Worship organized another Youth Worship. this time it was praise-based, which is based on the Hama'alot Psalms (Psalms of Ascension). The theme was "Here in His Presence". The above picture (below) shows some of the worshipers stick their praise cards on a styrofoam Wailing Wall. Renie has put a lot of effort into making the wall. Happenings (2): 1st Semester 2009-10

On October 16, 2009 the Theology Club organized a vespers program themed 'There is no coincidence'. The program was based on the story of Job in the first two chapters of the book. Skits and props were all part of the program. Dr. Fanwar spoke the message to conclude the probram.

October 31 featured the class of Christian Worship and Music doing the Youth Worship on Youth Sabbath. The worship was word-based. It was based on the story of King Josiah's reformation. As usual, the worship was complete with props and costumes. At the end of the worship, doughnuts were being distributed as an attempt to capture one part of the 'passover' during the revival of Josiah. Picture above (courtesy of Julios) features King Josiah holding the scroll which was found in the temple by the priest.

Happenings (1): 1st Semester 2009-10

There was a get together on September 6, 2009 for the Theology Club. This was the first get together for the semester to welcome all the new students. We had about 20 students being introduced.

In this same month, the 'Seekers' group which was initiated last school year by a group of students in the Faculty, was being featured in the Newsbyte. James, Bounta and Keophetsamon spearheaded this Bible study group, which was originally started as part of the their practicum. They decided to continue this activity this school year. The World...Part 1

[This is the first part of a series of four parts in regard to a theological thought by Ben Soontorn]

Recently, my church is holding a Daniel Seminar after church. As I listened and observed, I could not stop thinking of the approach and interpretation which the church held. It flashed back to book I recently read “The Apocalyptic Vision and the Neutering Adventism” by respected Adventist Church Historian Dr. George R. Knight. In the book, he explained the details in which cause Adventist stop growing. He presented the traditional approach to the 1884 understanding and his suggestion to the new believes but yet the answer doesn’t s satisfy my heart. The question is that is our historical approach in hermeneutic to the book of Daniel fits to the word “The World” as the Biblical perspectives?”

I have two questions to present to this unsatisfactory heart:

One is "Why all the approach based on western history?" And with the first question, it raises the second question "Is our world concept too small for the true world?"

As I post these two questions, I hope someone could present me a satisfactory answer and in part two, I will give illustrations to support the questions. Shalom.
